Plot
Thus far, I have anticipated massively for this series and not been let down one iota. This episode was snappy, fast-paced, and definitely intriguing. I had zero bored moments. Okay I had one bored moment, but it was right at the end so that doesn't count. The whole story was unique, impressive, and built up well (and sensibly) to the dramatic moment it started with. In terms of uniting the team it also worked supremely well, setting up for hopefully more working together in the next few episodes. Honestly I don't really have much to say, except I enjoyed it. A lot.
Character Development
Firstly, this is a new section which I will be adding to every review from now on. First time yay! Moving on. The introduction of Camilla was done well - we knew the basics about her, were vaguely surprised when she started being evil, and were happy to let her go at the end. She felt like a real character rather than a single-episode guest star, which is proven by the fact that I remembered her name. Unusual for me. We got a little bit more insight into the characters of Ward and Skye, and learnt some about Coulson's past. Obviously no big mysteries have been answered yet and I didn't really notice any new ones that had been revealed (unless you're desperate to know the details of Coulson and Camilla's hook-up a decade ago. In which case you're weird).
Music
I am really enjoying some of the music for this series. Mostly at the end, in the calm moments, it became really catchy and generally enjoyable. Looking forward to more of the sort of 'team theme' in future episodes.
Acting
As far as I'm concerned, it was fine from everyone. Especially Sneezy the robot, who was totally the unsung hero of the piece. Yep. I took a bit of issue with the way everyone had perfect hair, though. Mostly May, but Simmons went through a wind tunnel and came out unscathed, and even though there were about two shots of Skye's hair being messy it went back to perfectness a couple of seconds later. Hair is one of the things I notice a lot (I'm a girl, my hair is very long, what can I say? I can't help it) and it frustrates me when it's perfect or when it dries weirdly fast. Okay? Gah.
Scenery
Mostly the plane, which still needs a name. The moments on the ground in Peru were dusty but some shots of the jungle were particularly beautiful so I liked that. Also some new but nice images of the plane soaring through the clouds. Namelessly soaring through the clouds..
Sexism
Absolutely zero. Nada. Zilch. I love Joss Whedon. Have I mentioned that?
Bechdel Test
1. It includes at least two women,(Yes)
2. who have at least one conversation, (No)
3. about something other than a man or men. (No)
Again, just reiterating that I count the conversation as far as this test is concerned as being solely between two women with no men included in the conversation. That said, I can't really think of any conversations in this episode that were entirely male either, so it's not such a bad score. 1/3
